Honorary Fellow (HonFIET)

Honorary Fellows are elected by the Board of Trustees to this prestigious membership category.

Honorary Fellows are elected by the IET Board of Trustees. Honorary Fellows are:   

  • Persons distinguished by their work in any engineering discipline falling within the objects and purposes of the IET, or

  • Distinguished individuals whom the IET desires to honour for services rendered to the IET or whose association is of benefit to the IET.

Honorary Fellows are entitled to use the designatory letters HonFIET (Honorary Fellow of the Institution of Engineering and Technology).

Members of the IET are invited to propose names of individuals to be considered for Honorary Fellowship. Proposals should be accompanied by brief biographical information and a short statement of the grounds on which the nomination is made.

The IET will acknowledge receipt of nominations. It cannot enter into correspondence on the merits of a particular nomination.
