Reduced membership fees

Read on to find out more about reduced fees, who is eligible and how to claim your reduction.

Who is eligible?

Members on a career break

You can claim a 50% discount off the standard rate each year if your annual income is below £26,000.

Members with reduced income

If your annual income is less than £26,000 (or local currency equivalent), you can claim a 50% discount off the standard rate each year.

Retired members

If you’re over 65, retired from paid employment and you’ve paid for IET membership for the last ten years, you can also claim a 50% discount off the standard rate. You only need to apply once and it’ll be applied automatically each year.

Students and Apprentices

If you meet our student membership requirements, you’ll automatically be billed at a reduced rate of £35.00

How to claim your reduction

If you think you’re eligible, make sure you claim your reduction or refund within 14 days of your fee due date.

  1. Online: simply pay the reduced rate as part of your application or renewal through your IET account.
  2. Over the phone: call Membership Services and quote your membership number as well as your circumstance.
  3. By post: Write your circumstance in the payment section of your renewal notice and adjust the payment amount and total due, then send your notice and payment back to us at Membership Services, The IET, PO Box 40, Stevenage SG1 2SD, United Kingdom.

If you have any questions about your eligibility, please contact the Membership Services team. We may ask you for proof of your eligibility for a reduced rate.

Reduced Engineering Council fees

If you pay a reduced IET membership rate and are professionally registered with the Engineering Council, you also qualify for a reduced Engineering Council fee.
