Welcome from the editor
Welcome to the new look and feel Member News magazine. We’ve been working hard behind the scenes to enhance our news offering to you, our members.
From mitigating the effects of climate change and creating medical technology, to space mission design, AI and robotics – our engineering community is diverse, working in important and exciting areas of the sector. We want to recognise and celebrate this by putting you front and centre through industry insight, opinion and thought leadership on the topics you’ve told us are important.
So, what can you expect from Member News moving forward?
We’ve increased the frequency to bring you the latest from our members and volunteers in every edition of E+T magazine. Following the issue, we’ll be exploring subjects featured in the magazine in more depth across our social channels, such as EngX, and we encourage you to join the conversation. From decarbonising the grid to digital accessibility, we have over 12,000 members already tapping into engineering and community insight discussions on the platform.
The success of Member News of course relies on the stories we are able to tell, and we want to showcase the incredible work our members and volunteers are doing to engineer a better world for us all. If you’d like to get in touch to share your stories and tell us about the exciting projects you are working on, please email membernews@theiet.org – we’d love to hear from you!
In this issue, we explore the impact AI can have on societal progress and discuss its role in enhancing functional safety and driving sustainable futures. We highlight an inclusive engineering project that is breaking down barriers and examine how education systems and their curriculums can help address the UK skills shortage.
We hope you’ll share our excitement about evolving Member News and you enjoy this first issue.
