Tolga Tutuncuoglu FIET

Engineering the future with AI and purpose

From classical engineering to global AI innovation

Tolga Tutuncuoglu’s journey into engineering began with a deep fascination for how logic could shape possibility. “I was fascinated by how ideas could become structures, systems, and technologies that change lives,” he recalls. With a foundation in Civil Engineering, his early career was rooted in large-scale infrastructure projects. Yet, his curiosity soon led him beyond traditional boundaries into the transformative world of artificial intelligence and digital technologies.

“Engineering is not just about solving problems,” Tolga reflects. “It’s about shaping futures.”

This belief has guided a career that now spans continents, disciplines, and industries. From pioneering AI-powered infrastructure to mentoring the next generation of engineers, Tolga’s work exemplifies the convergence of technical excellence and visionary leadership.

Engineering beyond limits: from infrastructure to intelligent systems

Tolga’s career path has been anything but conventional. His early roles saw him managing complex engineering projects under demanding conditions, where he cultivated a strong foundation in innovation and resilience. Recognising the transformative potential of AI, he pivoted toward digital technologies, leading to the publication of original research, the development of neural network architectures, and keynote speaking engagements at international conferences. These experiences broadened his professional network and elevated his standing from engineering practitioner to global thought leader.

Current role and day-to-day impact

Currently, Tolga leads the patent-pending Hoxt Project, an AI-driven server management system designed to autonomously detect and resolve issues, predict hardware failures, correct website errors, and neutralise cyberattacks in real time. Among one of his most standout achievements, it’s a bold initiative aimed at redefining digital infrastructure and delivering tangible benefits to users worldwide.

“There’s no typical day,” Tolga shares. “Some days I’m deep in research, developing new neural network architectures or reviewing scientific papers for leading journals. Others I’m sharing insights on AI, digital transformation, and the future of engineering while delivering keynote speeches at international conferences. It’s this dynamic blend of leadership, service, and innovation that drives me.”

Service to the professional community

Giving back to the engineering community is a core part of Tolga’s professional ethos. He dedicates time to mentoring young engineers, helping them navigate both technical and career challenges. This commitment provides him with a meaningful balance between leadership, research, and service.

“I actively serve as a mentor,” he explains, “guiding young engineers and entrepreneurs not only on technical matters but also on building confidence and vision.”

Tolga also contributes as a reviewer for high-impact journals and conferences, ensuring the quality and advancement of research. His dedication to professional development extends to his role as a Fellowship Assessor with the IET, where he helps evaluate and recognise the achievements of fellow engineers.

“These roles are a way for me to give back to the profession that has given me so much,” he adds.

A journey with the IET

Tolga’s connection with the IET was driven by a desire to align with an organisation that sets global standards of excellence. Becoming a Fellow before the age of 40 is a key milestone that reflects both his achievements and his commitment to engineering leadership.

“I joined the IET not just for membership, but to be part of a tradition of leadership and innovation,” Tolga shares. “Fellowship is not just recognition, it’s a responsibility.”

He was inspired by the opportunity to demonstrate that his work had created measurable and meaningful impact. “Fellowship represents not just an award, but a validation of years of dedication, innovation, and service.”

Through the IET, Tolga has gained international credibility, opened doors to speaking opportunities, and strengthened his role as a thought leader in engineering and AI. His involvement in Fellowship assessments, mentorship programmes, and global events has amplified his ability to influence and inspire others.

Challenges and support along the way

“One of the key challenges I faced was navigating the complexities of interdisciplinary innovation—convincing stakeholders that the fusion of engineering and artificial intelligence could truly transform industries,” Tolga explains.

He overcame this through persistence, a proven track record of successful projects, and the credibility earned through global recognition, including his Fellowship with the IET. These elements helped build trust and demonstrate the tangible value of his forward-thinking approach.

“The IET has given me a global platform for recognition and collaboration,” he says. Through his Fellowship and assessor responsibilities, Tolga has connected with world-class professionals and contributed to shaping the standards of engineering practice.

Advice to aspiring fellows

Tolga encourages others to aim beyond personal achievement and embrace active participation.

“The IET community is a living network, not just a credential,” he says. “Get involved, share knowledge, and grow through collaboration.”

He believes that Fellowship is about impact: “It’s about how your work empowers industries, communities, and future engineers. Strive for excellence, stay committed, and give back.”

What’s in store for the future?

Looking ahead, Tolga plans to scale the Hoxt Project globally and continue his mentorship mission. He views Fellowship not as a destination, but as a launchpad for greater responsibility.

“Becoming an IET Fellow is the beginning of a deeper journey—to inspire, influence, and innovate for a better world.”

His Fellowship has also strengthened the credibility of his work in investment discussions, giving him a platform to encourage others to aim higher. As he continues to mentor globally and engage in discussions around AI and engineering ethics, Tolga remains committed to supporting young engineers in pursuing their ambitions.

Through ongoing speaking engagements and his role as an assessor, Tolga will continue contributing to the IET’s mission of shaping a better world through engineering.
