Gaining professional registration as a marine engineer (Royal Navy Marine Engineering Branch (RNMEB))
The Defence Engineer Registration Scheme (DERS) eligibility criteria for CEng, IEng and EngTech for Royal Navy Marine Engineering personnel.
Which criteria are right for me?

You must hold the substantive rank of Lieutenant or above.
You should have completed a Deputy Marine Engineer Officer (DMEO) post or appointment holding similar levels of responsibility.
You also need an accredited Bachelors degree with honours in engineering or technology, plus either an appropriate Masters degree accredited by a professional engineering institution, or appropriate further learning to Masters level or an accredited integrated MEng degree.
We believe in the value of experience as well as education.
That’s why they will consider your application even if you don’t meet the above academic requirements but can prove you have the same level of knowledge and understanding.

You must hold the substantive rank of at least:

Petty Officer (Engineering Technician) (Marine Engineering); having completed the post-Programme Faraday Petty Officer Engineering Technician Qualifying Course (POETQC).

Pre-Faraday Petty Officer (Engineering Technician) (Marine Engineering), having completed a Technical Engineering Appointment for at least 2 years.

Chief Petty Officer (Engineering Technician), the Professional Examination (PE) for promotion to Chief Petty Officer (Engineering Technician) and Chief Petty Officer (Engineering Technician) Course; or
-
A more senior rank, having been appointed as a Deputy Marine Engineering Officer (DMEO).
You should have completed a Technical Engineering Appointment in the substantive rank, post completion of training, for at least two years.
You also need an appropriate Bachelors degree in engineering or technology or a Higher National Certificate, Diploma or Foundation Degree in engineering and technology, plus evidence of additional learning (including work-based learning). We believe in the value of experience as well as education.

Hold an NVQ L3 qualification in your trade, or suitable qualification at QCF3 (or SCQF or EQF equivalent) or above; or

Completion of a programme leading to NVQ L3 (including the relevant Engineering Technician Marine Engineering conversion course if converting from the CIS sub-stream).
