Welcome from the editor

Welcome to the latest issue of Member News, where we celebrate the people, projects and progress shaping the future of engineering and technology.

This edition reflects on a year of development, resilience and community. We begin with a look at how our members are keeping the lights on - from global energy leadership to our role in Powering Net Zero Week, where we championed sustainable solutions, cross-sector collaboration, and the critical role engineers play in achieving a low-carbon future. From policy influence on practical innovation, our members are helping to shape the energy transition and ensure it remains at the forefront of national and global agendas.

We welcome Dawn Ohlson CEng FIET MEng as our new president. She is passionate about ensuring that engineering remains inclusive, impactful and deeply connected to society's evolving needs. Dawn also brings an unwavering commitment to supporting volunteers.

This issue also celebrates the centenary of Elizabeth Laverick, the IET's first female deputy secretary - a milestone in our rich heritage.

We highlight volunteers, including Gordana Collier, and feature member insights from Anuradha Udunuwara, whose work continues to inspire across borders. We also share an update on the exciting new developments in our Savoy Place rooms, designed to better serve our members and guests.

Finally, we pay tribute to Malcolm Kennedy and Sir David Davies, past Presidents whose contributions helped shape where we are today.
