The Virtual Library is a collective name for the range of online resources offered by the IET library. Access to these resources is available 24/7 worldwide as a benefit of IET membership via the Virtual Library page on our website.
The Virtual library offers ebooks from Knovel, EBSCO and Wiley as well as a wide range of ejournals and business information from EBSCOhost databases. These resources have been chosen to help IET members of all categories with their professional development and research needs.
The most efficient way to search the Virtual Library is to use the EBSCO Discovery portal, which can be accessed via the ‘Search the Virtual Library’ button at the top of the Virtual Library page. EBSCO Discovery Service is a powerful search tool which allows users to search our entire range of e-resources. You can search using keywords, titles and use other criteria such as publication date to narrow your search. If you want to browse the resources from a specific supplier (e.g. Knovel) it is also possible to view and search each of the resources on the Virtual Library individually.
You need to have registered on the IET website and have received a username and password. You will then use these credentials each time you wish to use the Virtual Library. Once you are logged into the IET website you will be able to access the Virtual Library. If you are having difficulty logging in, the single sign-on FAQs are available to assist you.
Why am I being asked to register with Knovel when I am already logged in using my IET login details?
The first time you access Virtual Library resources you may be asked to register for an account with the eresource provider (e.g. Knovel or EBSCO). This allows you to take advantage of the site’s full functionality including saving searches, articles or book chapters. It only takes a moment and, once you have set your preferences, you will be redirected to the resource you were looking for.
In addition to the resources in the Virtual Library, we also provide access to Ancestry, British Newspaper Archive, IEEExplore, a range of standards from BSI, the IET Digital Library and Inspec. However, these are only accessible in the IET Knowledge Centre at Savoy Place.
The IET Digital Library provides online full-text access to journals, books and conferences published by the IET. Members can gain some free access by using their Knowledge pack credits. The Virtual Library provides online books and journals which are mainly not published by the IET.
