IET joins industry call for continued commitment to UK infrastructure strategy

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has joined 27 organisations from across the engineering, infrastructure and construction sectors in signing a joint letter calling on the incoming Prime Minister to maintain the UK's long-term infrastructure strategy.

Co-ordinated by the Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), the letter highlights the importance of long-term policy certainty to support investment, deliver major infrastructure projects and provide confidence across the sector.

Stephanie Baxter, Head of Policy at the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), said:

"Delivering the UK's infrastructure ambitions requires long-term policy certainty. Frequent changes in direction create uncertainty for industry and can delay investment, skills development and project delivery.

"Infrastructure does not operate in isolation. Energy, digital and communications networks are increasingly interdependent, so resilience needs to be considered across the systems that support them. Taking a long-term approach to planning and investment will help ensure the UK's infrastructure remains reliable, secure and able to meet future demand.

"The 10-Year Infrastructure Strategy provides an important foundation. Maintaining that long-term direction will give industry the confidence to invest, build capability and focus on delivery.”
