Education volunteer

In this role, you’ll be inspiring the next generation of engineers by engaging with students between the ages of four and 19 years, encouraging them to consider STEM subjects during their studies and a fulfilling career in engineering.

You’ll engage with your audience through time spent in various educational, youth, and event settings, and you will act as the main point of contact between the IET Education department, your Local Network members, and education/STEM providers.

Person requirements:

  • Member of the IET (Student and Associate category also applicable).
  • Based in the UK.
  • Hold a valid enhanced disclosure check: DBS/PVG certificate
  • An interest and passion for engineering and technology, with experience in any aspect of engineering.
  • A positive mindset.
  • Enthusiasm for inspiring young people of all ages and abilities.
  • Good communication skills and the ability to collaborate with representatives from the education community.
  • An awareness of STEM curricula and local STEM activities and activity providers.

Desired requirement:

  • Registered STEM Ambassador.

Time commitment

The amount of time you’ll need to commit will vary, but you can count on being active for at least four volunteering activities per annum.
