Power Systems 101
An overview of the components and trade-offs within power systems for the Welsh Government Advisory Group.
On the 21st of January 2026, the Independent Advisory Group on Future Electricity Grid for Wales published its final report ‘Future Electricity Grid for Wales’, marking an important moment in Wales’s journey towards a cleaner, more secure electricity system. The Independent Advisory Group was established to consider how Wales’s electricity grid must evolve to meet rapidly growing demand while supporting decarbonisation and maintaining public confidence.
IET representation in this group contributed technical insight and engineering perspectives to a discussion that sits at the heart of Wales’s net zero ambitions. This presentation was given to the Welsh Government’s Advisory Group by the IET, providing a vital foundation for making informed choices that are technically credible, socially aware and focused on long term outcomes.
