Engineering and Technology Apprentice Award

Jared Newnham

Jared Newnham is the winner of the Engineering and Technology Apprentice Award. He is an Aerospace Engineering Degree Apprentice with the DE&S Air Domain, Ministry of Defence.

Jared was tasked with researching, developing, and implementing a formal Tech Query procedure that satisfied regulation and was agreeable to industry partners.

Using his initiative, he created a robust, regulatory-compliant procedure that has been used for multiple complex technical queries and is being rolled out to all projects within the Delivery Team.

He consistently performs several grades above that expected. He also mentors struggling classmates and has promoted the scheme and engineering careers to students at his old college.

Engineering and Technology Technician Award

Charlotte Huntley

Charlotte Huntley EngTech TMIET is the winner of the Engineering and Technology Technician Award.

She is a Junior Electrical Instrumentation Control and Automation Engineer at Arcadis where she has worked on several strategically important projects, including co-authoring the ‘Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations’ Explosion Protection Document, whilst working on the Advanced Anaerobic Digestion upgrade at a key wastewater treatment works; a £40million waste-to-energy upgrade, converting sewage sludge gas to electricity.

She is also the regional Safety, Health and Environment Lead for Wales and the Southwest England, where she is responsible for training scheduling, compliance and providing health and safety guidance.

Armed Forces Technician Award

Sgt Wathan

Sgt Wathan BEng IEng MIET is the winner of the Armed Forces Technician Award.

He is a Mechanical Aircraft Technician in Engineering Standards and Evaluation at Royal Air Force Marham, where he led the design of RAF Marham’s Power Applications focused on delivering aircraft engineering risk management, assurance oversight and process improvement.

He also mentors over 450 maintainers from both the Royal Air Force and Royal Navy.
