Professional Advantage

The need to know details

How much does it cost?

Professional Advantage costs £95 per year for the two-year package. If you sign up in your sixth year after graduation, you’ll get one year for £95.

Do you need to have started on Career Advantage?

No, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for Professional Advantage (which includes being at MIET status), you can sign up straight away. If you’re already a member and graduated within the last six years, you should have been auto-enrolled for the Advantage Scheme. But if you’re not a member yet, don’t worry! You can sign up as a brand new member on Professional Advantage.

Can you join if you’re not a MIET?

No, as Professional Advantage is targeted to those working at MIET level. If you think you’re eligible for MIET status, you can apply to transfer your membership.

Continuing your studies after graduating?

If you’re studying part-time and you graduated within the last five to six years, you can sign up for Professional Advantage. If you graduated in the last three to four years, you’ll be better suited to Career Advantage, while if you graduated in the last 12 months, you should sign up for Graduate Advantage.

Live or study outside the UK?

No problem. Professional Advantage is open to all students and graduates of engineering and technology degrees around the world. However, if you’re in India, there’s a tailored version of Professional Advantage just for you.

What happens after Professional Advantage?

After you complete Professional Advantage, you’ll be renewed as a standard member at the standard membership rate. You’ll still be able to access all the Advantage material, so if you’re still on the road to professional registration, you have all the support you need. You’ll be able to carry on using the MIET letters too.
