Career Advantage

The need to know details

How much does it cost?

Career Advantage is great value: it costs just £65 per year for the three-year package when you sign up in your first year after graduation. If you sign up in your third year after graduation, you’ll get two years at £65 per year and if you join in your fourth year after graduation, you’ll get one year for £65 per year and all the benefits. You’ll also be automatically signed up to Professional Advantage at the end of your final year.

Do you need to have started on Graduate Advantage?

No, as long as you meet the eligibility criteria for Career Advantage, you can sign up straight away. If you’re already a member and graduated within the last four years, you should have been auto-enrolled for the Advantage Scheme. But if you’re not a member yet, don’t worry! You can sign up as a brand new member on Career Advantage.

Can you join if you’re an Associate?

You can, but Career Advantage is targeted to those working at MIET level and we’d expect you to be seriously considering transferring your membership across.

Continuing your studies after graduating?

If you’re studying full-time, you have two options:

  1. Join as a Student member and pay £35 for the duration of your course. However, you won’t get the benefits of the Career Advantage package and you won’t be able to use the designatory letters.
  2. Join Career Advantage and apply for MIET status, for only £65 a year. You’ll get all the benefits plus the right to use the MIET designatory letters.

Studying part-time?

You won’t be able to join as a Student, so you should sign up for Career Advantage. If you graduated in the last 12 months, you’ll be eligible for Graduate Advantage.

Live or study outside the UK?

No problem. Career Advantage is open to all students and graduates of engineering and technology degrees around the world. However, if you’re in India, there’s a tailored version of Career Advantage just for you.

What happens after Career Advantage?

After you complete Career Advantage, you’re on the final stretch. If you’re MIET status, you’ll auto-enrol on Professional Advantage – a two-year course specifically developed to get you to Professional Registration. It costs £95 per year.
