Help shape the future: A chance to join Foothold’s Board of Trustees

As part of its ongoing mission to support engineers and their families during times of personal or financial hardship, Foothold - the IET Benevolent Fund - is inviting applications for two pivotal roles on its Board of Trustees: An Honorary Treasurer and a General Trustee (IET member).

These voluntary positions offer a unique opportunity for IET members to take on significant leadership responsibilities and contribute to the strategic direction of a charity dedicated to supporting engineers and their families through life’s challenges.

The roles:

  • The Honorary Treasurer will lead the Finance, Audit and Risk Committee, providing expert oversight of budgeting, financial reporting, and internal controls. This role is ideal for someone with strong financial acumen and a passion for governance.
  • The General Trustee role is open to IET members who want to bring their professional insight to the board. Trustees help shape Foothold’s strategy, monitor performance, and ensure the charity remains responsive to the needs of the engineering community.

No prior trustee experience is required, just a commitment to Foothold’s mission and a willingness to engage in board-level decision-making. Meetings are held in London, with remote participation options available. Training and support are provided, and reasonable expenses are reimbursed.

These roles offer more than governance duties; they provide a meaningful way to reinforce the engineering profession’s collective wellbeing. Trustees safeguard a legacy of support for colleagues who might be facing challenges, ensuring that Foothold remains both financially sound and mission driven.

Applications close at 12pm on Tuesday, 4 November 2025, with interviews scheduled for Friday, 21 November in central London. Interested candidates should submit a completed application form, CV, and a two-page supporting statement.
