Governance opportunity at Foothold

The IET is proud to support Foothold, the Institution of Engineering and Technology’s Benevolent Fund.

Foothold is a separate independent charity, supporting IET members in times of need. Like all charities, Foothold’s activities and operations are overseen by its Board of Trustees. Two of the Trustees are nominated by the IET – an IET Trustee and a member.

We’re now seeking expressions of interest from IET members who would like to join the Board at Foothold for three years to support its ambitions and objectives. Foothold exists to ensure that engineers and their families never face life’s challenges alone.

It provides a range of services including online health and wellbeing support, neurodiversity support, the Foothold app, counselling and financial assistance.

If you think you have the skills, drive and passion to support Foothold to deliver its strategy and have the time and commitment to join its Board as an IET member representative, please submit your expression of interest to governance@theiet.org by Friday 24 January 2025.

The submission should include your details, including IET membership status, as well as a statement (max 200 words) outlining your skills and passion to undertake the role of a Foothold Trustee.

The IET’s Nominations and Succession Committee will then recommend the IET representative on the Foothold Board of Trustees in February with the successful candidate starting once Foothold has confirmed their appointment. You can find out more about Foothold on its website.

Remember, even if you don’t have the time needed to support Foothold as a Trustee, you can still donate. You can support Foothold in a variety of ways, including one-off donations, leaving a gift in your Will, or becoming a Foothold volunteer.

An easy way to donate is by direct debit, allowing you to donate at the same time each month or year.
