Welcome from the editor

Welcome to the November-December issue of Member News magazine.

In this issue, we showcase our recent media coverage highlights from outlets across the world, ranging from globally renowned Agence France-Presse and the BBC airwaves to UK nationals, The Times and Financial Times, where our experts give their take on pressing engineering topics.

We explore our Future Tech Congress, which set out to tackle India’s reliance on imported components. The one-day event, which brought together international experts, focused on the rapid advancement of different digital technologies such as generative AI and its application across sectors such as healthcare.

We sit down with our new President, Warren East, to find out the priorities for his year in office, and meet our Postgraduate Research Award winners, who are doing incredible things in the field of science, engineering and technology to improve people’s lives around the world.

In our latest member profiles, find out how Thathsara Nanayakkara became the youngest IET registered chartered engineer in Sri Lanka, as well as top tips from our Young Professionals volunteer, Diego Valencia, on how best to develop your skills and build a strong network within the engineering community.

As always, the success of Member News relies on the stories we are able to tell, and we want to showcase the incredible work our members and volunteers are doing to engineer a better world for us all. If you’d like to get in touch to share your stories, please email membernews@theiet.org – we’d love to hear from you!

And don’t forget, we’ll be exploring subjects featured in the magazine in more depth across our social channels, such as EngX, and we encourage you to join the conversation.

We hope you enjoy this issue.
