Welcome from the editor

Welcome to the January- February issue of Member News magazine.

In this issue, we showcase our recent media coverage highlights from outlets across the world, ranging from UK nationals including The Times and The Sun, to key engineering and technology trade publications.

We explore the nuclear industry, its intersection with innovative technologies and how we can engineer a nuclear future. We also find out why smart cities are better cities and how digital communications technology can drastically improve the way we live our lives.

In our latest member profiles, we sit down with Craig Maclean who tells us how he found his professional home for life and the benefits of being part of a multidisciplinary institution.

We also find out how Alex Coniff is solving some of our world’s biggest challenges in Antarctica, and meet prolific volunteer Anish Sasidharan, who is contributing to the growth and excellence of the engineering profession through his IET volunteering opportunities.

As always, the success of Member News relies on the stories we are able to tell, and we want to showcase the incredible work our members and volunteers are doing to engineer a better world for us all. If you’d like to get in touch to share your stories, please email membernews@theiet.org – we’d love to hear from you!

We’ll also be exploring subjects featured in the magazine in more depth across our social channels, such as EngX, and we encourage you to join the conversation.

We hope you enjoy this issue.
