The National Cyber Security Strategy (NCSS) 2016-2021 sets out the Government’s ambition to “develop the cyber security profession, including through achieving Royal Chartered status by 2020, reinforcing the recognised body of cyber security excellence within the industry and providing a focal point which can advise, shape and inform national policy.”
This was developed and set out in the Initial National Cyber Security Skills Strategy (2018) as an ambition to establish a new, independent, UK Cyber Security Council (UKCSC) to act as an umbrella body for existing professional organisations and drive progress against the key challenges the profession faces.
In September 2019, The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) commissioned the establishment of the UK Cyber Security Council through a consortium of cyber security professional bodies.
The objectives of the Cyber Security Council are around the themes of professional development, professional ethics, thought leadership, influence and outreach.
The UK CSC formation project is committed to demonstrating full and broad representation from across the cyber security community together with the right blend and level of expertise to ensure it is credible, sustainable and can drive excellence in the profession.
The project recognises the importance of ensuring that the appointment of individuals to all boards, panels, working groups and prominent positions within the council are open, fair and transparent.
Details of project roles available are below. Roles are to be applied for by organisations with a suitably experienced and senior representative individual identified.
All roles are volunteer based and are not remunerated but the post-holder is able to claim reasonable out-of-pocket expenses. There is no specified location for carrying out the role – commitments can be delivered remotely with expectation of travel to occasional meetings face to face – anticipated to be London but other locations in the UK also possible.
If you are interested to support the UK CSC Formation Project and feel you have experience in a number of these areas (even if it’s not quite all of them) please send a ‘Letter of Application’ signed by C (or Director) Level for consideration to email@example.com.
Please note: There is no template for the letter of application. It should outline credentials and experience in relation to the person specification and the deliverables/ the role summary. A C/Director Level signature is a helpful indication of organisation's willingness to support the individual's participation in the project.
