Sustainable manufacturing: can it deliver net zero through digitalisation?
In this EngShort we look at the UK manufacturing industry’s challenge to delivering net zero and the role digitisation can play in enabling it to become carbon neutral.
How can we bridge the gap between finance, sustainability and digital transformation?
Solving our greatest challenges: How can we prepare future manufacturing engineers?
In this EngShort we look at preparing future manufacturing engineers for the global challenges that lay ahead. In late 2020, we joined with IMechE to discuss what the future manufacturing engineer might possibly look like.
What are the key skills that engineers will need to survive and thrive? What skills do you think future manufacturing engineers will need?

Are we manufacturing sustainably?
The global population is expected to rise to 9.3 billion by 2050, with continued ecological burdens on our planet. Resources such as soil, water and commodity materials are already under stress.
The manufacturing industry needs to deliver once-and-for-all-time change to dramatically reduce their impact on the environment. Engineers must work collaboratively with other disciplines to produce the solutions we need.
Is design everything?
How important is design in helping society, governments and business engineer a better world?
To answer the unmet needs of society, creativity, innovation and invention play a vital role in finding solutions. Businesses which adopt design as a strategy are more successful. However, not enough businesses are applying design thinking and many more are needed.

Are we going to run out of food?
By 2050, there could be 2 billion more mouths to feed on the planet, posing the question, are we going to run out of food?
Take a look at the technology that is already being used to help tackle this issue.
Do we use too much plastic?
We've all heard about the damaging effects of plastic on the planet, but what is actually being done to tackle the problem?
Engineers are playing a vital role in helping to save our planet, but it needs to be a team effort…
