The IET’s Engineering Safety Policy Panel was set up to act as a focus for safety issues and other related health matters of relevance to the profession. The policy group is comprised of engineering safety experts, doctors, health and safety practitioners, consultants from industry and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE). The objectives of the Engineering Safety Panel include:
- raising the awareness of current engineering safety and health issues
- formulating an informed position on these issues for the IET
- disseminating information on engineering safety and health to the IET, its members and the public as appropriate
- ensuring that the views of the IET on all safety related matters are made known to Government, standards bodies and other relevant authorities
To achieve these objectives, the panel co-ordinates the IET’s response to safety related consultations, maintains, updates health and safety briefing notes and liaises with other health and safety organizations. Recently a major focus of interest for the Engineering Safety Panel has contributing to the independent review of Building Regulations and Fire Safety lead by Dame Judith Hackitt: Building a Safer Future.
