New approaches to engineering higher education in practice

The engineering sector currently faces a skills shortage. The supply of work-ready engineers lags behind demand and employers regularly highlight gaps in the skills of the graduate engineers coming into the workforce. At the same time, the aspirations and career paths of students are changing. The new generation of potential engineers wants to study and work in different ways.

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) and the Engineering Professors Council (EPC) have outlined the six action areas to address across engineering higher education in order to create the engineering skills pipeline that industry needs.

These conference proceedings showcase examples of best practice of how universities have pioneered changes that make their engineering courses more innovative and focused on the future needs of the engineering sector. This document provides an in-depth overview of the changes made and how they were conceived and delivered.
