I am a member with a non-member account. How can I convert it?
Unfortunately, it is not possible for you to convert a non-member account to a member account online.
If you are logged in
You can change your password via MyIET, My account, then click on the 'personal details' tab. Once you have entered and verified your new password, scroll down and click on 'update'.
Use the update password button. If you see an error message, please do read this as it explains the cause of the problem and recommended course of action. (See our Registration FAQs page for help on how to construct your password).
If you are not logged in
If you are not logged in and you cannot remember your password, you can reset it by going to the reminder page. You will need to enter your registered email address and surname and check the 'I have forgotten my password' box. If you are an IET member you will also be required to confirm your identity. Members also have the option to request a reminder to a different email address.
A unique secure password reset link will then be sent to your registered email address, which you will need to use within 48 hours of receipt. When you use this link, a password reset page will open in your browser where you will be able to enter and verify a new password. You will then be able to login with your user name and new password.
If you cannot access your registered email address in order to receive the password reset link email please contact us.
Unfortunately, at present, it is not possible for you to change your user name online. If you wish to change your user name, please contact us.
No. It is not possible to add/change your listed qualifications online. Please contact our Member and Customer Service Centre for assistance with this.
Once you have logged in to your ‘MyIET’, you can change your communications preference under the ‘My account’ section, and the type of information you receive under the ‘Interests’ section.
Please note that if you change your registered postal address it could take a few weeks before IET mail starts going to your new address as due to the size of the mailings, address labels are often printed some weeks in advance. Sorry for any inconvenience that this may cause.
Institution members who have registered membership accounts can use the IET website to update their contact information. Users with non-member accounts are also able to add contact information; doing so is helpful for site functions such as the online shop and feedback or survey forms.
- Adding or editing an address
Please use the personal details page of the Account tab in MyIET. For certain countries (e.g. UK), a postcode/zip code lookup function is available. Please enter your postcode and press the Get Address button. Make any necessary selection (e.g. of your house number). You can then make any corrections to the address before pressing the Update button to save it.
For other countries, please enter your address directly.
Use this process either when adding an address for the first time, or when replacing it with a new one.
- Changing an email address
You can update your email address on the same page as above. Please press the Update button to save the new address. This address will be used for system notifications, including for example purchases in the Webshop and updates to any discussion threads in which you are participating, as well as by the IET to contact you, subject to any communication preferences that you have set in MyIET.
In the first instance please double check your spam folder to make sure the email that was sent has not ended up here. If this is not the case, it could be that the primary email address we hold for you is no longer the main email you use. You can contact us by emailing email@example.com, please supply your name, membership number and date of birth, and your preferred email address and we can reset the password link to the correct email address for you.
