Sensors, actuators, and their interfaces technical training course

We can run additional courses dependent on demand. Please contact us if you are interested in different dates.

About the technical training course

This new technical course covers the fundamental principles of operating, selecting and interfacing sensors and actuators.

Sensors and actuators are used daily in countless applications to ensure accurate and reliable workflows and safer environments.

However, as sensors and actuators are not normally covered academic curricula as a subject in their own right, engineers and technicians often find themselves limited in their knowledge of them.

This live virtual technical training course will empower delegates with a solid understanding of sensor and actuator physics with an emphasis on interfacing with microprocessors, that can be applied across multiple engineering disciplines.

The course will focus on the theory, practical applications, and uses of these fundamental components.

The course programme is led by Dr. Nathan Ida, author of Sensors, Actuators, and Their Interfaces: A multidisciplinary Introduction, and distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio.

Key themes

  • Understand what sensors and actuators are, and the principles of implementation
  • Learn about operation of devices (the “physics”), selection and applications (the “applications”) and interfacing - the circuits and methods of making the trio work
  • Discuss selection for application with emphasis on performance – accuracy, response, appropriateness for the task
  • Explore interfacing and embedded systems approach to implementation of sensing systems

Why attend?

  • Gain a solid understanding of the physics of sensors and actuators to faciliate selection and applications
  • Understand the different types of sensors and actuators available, their properties, manufacturing and the theory behind them
  • Explore examples from a variety of disciplines and across complexity levels
  • Gain exclusive insights from the expert course trainer
  • Meet and talk with peers working in the same or similar fields

Dr. Nathan Ida

Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at The University of Akron in Akron, Ohio

His current research interests are in the areas of non-destructive testing and evaluation of materials at low and microwave frequencies with particular emphasis on sensing, ground penetrating radar, all aspects of modelling and simulation and on related issues stemming from research in NDE and in sensing.

Other areas of current interest include electromagnetic wave propagation, theoretical issues in computation, as well as in communications and sensing, especially in low power remote control and wireless sensing.

Much of this work has found its way into practice through industrial relations and consulting across industries as diverse as power generation, polymers, steel, medical and software, spanning the globe.

Dr. Ida has published extensively on nondestructive testing of materials, surface impedance boundary conditions, sensing and others, in over 400 publications and has written 12 books.
