There are a few things to factor in before making up your mind.
Rating and influence
Check league tables to find out if the course you’re interested in rates highly against the competition, and research the lecturers you would study under. Find out if the university is IET accredited, as this will help you work towards professional accreditation. Look into the university’s industry ties as this may lead to work experience and graduate scheme opportunities.
Location, location, location
It may seem trivial, but if the campus is located somewhere that doesn’t suit you, you might not get the most from your university experience. Think about whether you want to be close to home or not. Going far afield and establishing your independence might sound tempting, but staying in your hometown means you could be saving a lot of money.
Do you want to be in a rural environment or do you envision setting up in a big city? Social activities will vary according to location, so think about what you want to get out of your extracurricular activities before you decide.
The university environment will have an impact on your happiness, which is why you should visit on open days to really get a feel of the place.
