End Point Assessment

Assessments are designed by employers in the sector and are conducted by independent bodies known as Assessment Organisations (AOs). 

We have been recognised by Ofqual (The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation) as a regulated Assessment Organisation for apprenticeships in Engineering. 

Ofqual regulates qualifications, examinations and assessments in England and will be carrying out external quality assurance for the majority of apprenticeship standards in England. 

As an Assessment Organisations, we are responsible for ensuring a rigorous EPA process and carrying out Professional Engineering Competence Assessments. 

The IET is approved to assess the following apprenticeship standards: 

Level 6

  • ST0151 - Embedded Electronic Systems, Design and Development Engineer 

Level 4

  • ST0316 - Rail Engineering Advanced Technician
  • ST0662 - Automation and Controls Engineering Technician 
  • ST0841 - Engineering Manufacturing Technician 

Level 3

  • ST0164 - Engineering Design Technician 
  • ST0315 - Rail Engineering Design Technician
  • ST0318 - Rail Engineering Technician
  • ST0432 - Engineering Fitter
  • ST0457 - Engineering Technician
    Currently only options 1, 2, 4, 11 and 12 remain open for new starters.
  • ST0571 - Heritage Engineering Technician
  • ST1305 - Machining Technician 
  • ST1326 - Mechatronics Maintenance Technician
  • ST1395 - Engineering and Manufacturing Support Technician
  • ST1426 - Engineering Maintenance Technician – Single 
  • ST1443 - Engineering Maintenance Technician – Dual 

We are also able to act as Assessment Organisation for the following retired standards, for cohorts who began their apprenticeship before the 31 December 2025.  

  • ST0457 - Level 3 Engineering Technician
  • ST0154 - Level 3 MOET (Maintenance and Operations Engineering Technician)
