Colin Davis chairs Medical Interchange, a group of 9 Universities in the West Midlands who are developing innovative medical technology concepts and building collaborations with industry targeted at manufactured products for the healthcare sector.
He is a Visiting Professor at Staffordshire University and is developing a similar group interested in sustainable technologies and renewable energy.
He is also an Associate Fellow at the University of Warwick where he spent fifteen years leading the “Partners In Excellence” programmes for WMG encouraging strategic innovation and diversification for manufacturing businesses including the £6m regional Health Tech project. He has contributed to a number of national and regional skills studies through the Institute for Employment Research.
The first half of his career was based in industry with the Alfred Herbert and John Brown Groups, working with divisions and member companies to research technologies, industrial and market trends and helping them to develop advanced manufacturing technology machines and automated systems along with the business opportunities for them in a number of sectors and markets around the world.
He has been a Council member of the British Robot and Automation Association, wrote and delivered IProdE/IEE contributions to the DTI “Managing into the 90’s” programme and has contributed widely to International Conferences, manufacturing and design journals as well as University post graduate courses in the UK; he currently supports several Midlands Regional Development programmes. Currently he is a Director and Deputy Chair of the MBRT Trust and Chair of the Board of CTM Ventures Ltd.
He was junior Vice Chairman of the former IEE Manufacturing Board and has been a member of the IET’s Manufacturing Engineer Journal Editorial Advisory Panel and a member of its Manufacturing Enterprise Executive. He has Chaired one of the IEE’s former Manufacturing Professional Groups and has served on a number of national boards and committees winning the Tony Goldsmith cup for services to manufacturing. He is a past Chair of the IET Coventry and Warwickshire local network and its Manufacturing Section.
