Member of the Communications Policy Panel
Mr Walker has been a member of the IET Communications Policy Panel since its creation in November 2002.
Peter Walker is currently a consultant specialising in telecoms technology, regulation and related public policy issues. He was formerly Director, Technology at Oftel, the UK's past telecoms regulator (1993-2003), where he played an active role in both policy development and compliance, as well as a providing strategic expert advice on technology issues.
Prior to Oftel, Peter was with BT (1971 - 1993) where he performed a range of network engineering roles, notably as Head of Planning for the London Network and Director, Planning in BT International.
Peter is the President of the UK branch of FITCE, the Federation of Telecommunications Engineers of the European Community. He is also an external advisor to BT on their heritage policy and involvement in the Connected Earth community.
In addition to the Communications Policy Panel, Peter also contributes to the IET as an Executive Team member for the Communication Networks and Services Professional Network and as a member of the Interview Panel. In 2002, the IEE (predecessor of the IET) awarded Peter an Achievement Medal for his outstanding contribution to Communications.
