An overview of how academic programme accreditation is carried out.
A panel of trained IET experts visit a department to examine a wide range of issues including programme content, delivery and resources to ensure that the requirements have been met. Accreditation is awarded to individual programmes leading towards either Chartered Engineer or Incorporated Engineer registration.
Universities/Colleges are required to demonstrate that they meet the criteria set by the IET, which based on UK-SPEC. The IET endeavours to operate a transparent process, and the IET accreditation staff are available to give advice at any stage of the process.
In order to demonstrate that a programme is suitable for accreditation, the IET has developed accreditation forms which will need to be completed prior to the accreditation visit. Guidance is available to help you complete our documentation in addition to a downloadable presentation that is given at our higher education institution training workshops.
The academic accreditation submission forms are available once you have booked your visit.
All IET accreditation guidance and policy is available in our guidance and policy section of the website.
To book a visit you must complete the booking form and send it to IET accreditation. Please contact an IET accreditation staff member for advice before completing the booking form if:
