Consultation on Diploma in Science: IET comments to the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF).
Both the employers’ and higher education’s needs considered so far have been too narrow to judge at this stage and require expansion. The potential progression routes are not clear enough for someone without the detailed background knowledge, such as a parent. The mathematics component is critical and should be seen as more than just an “element” of the diploma. There may be a good case to be made for oral examination at foundation and higher levels if appropriate examination methods can be found.
