S809 - Next Generation of National Qualifications in Scotland

Consultation on “Next generation of national qualifications in Scotland”: IET comments to the Scottish Government.

The retention of national qualifications at Access, Higher and Advanced Higher levels will benefit the study of science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) subjects, as it enables students to select five subjects in their 5th senior year. This in turn enables greater detailed study in STEM subjects. Because STEM subjects are seen as being some of the most difficult to study, it is important that co-operative working with colleges is available so that every school, and especially smaller schools, can offer STEM courses and STEM subjects get equal promotion throughout a student’s compulsory education.
