S1024 - Low carbon network infrastructure

Written evidence submitted by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) to the House of Commons Energy and Climate Change Committee on Low carbon network infrastructure.

Abstract The IET’s response to the ECCC’s inquiry on Low carbon network infrastructure highlights an overview of the Future Power Systems Architecture (FPSA) project that is being done with IET in collaboration with the Energy Systems Catapult on behalf of the Department of Energy and Climate Change to test whether the current approach to planning and operating the power system in Great Britain is robust to the challenges it will have to meet. Our response also highlights the role of the IET’s Power Network Joint Vision (PNJV) expert group in developing this project, and offers the Committee’s staff and/or members a briefing with the IET’s Energy Policy Panel on the value of taking a whole systems approach to the electricity network.
