Jeremy Watson is Arup’s Global Research Director, responsible for Group Research Strategy and the Research Consulting business. He is also Chief Scientific Adviser to the Department of Communities and Local Government. Jeremy has held research and technical management roles in industry and academe including service with BIS, EPSRC and the Technology Strategy Board. Specialties include Strategic Technology Development and Transfer, Innovation Processes and NPD Management.
He also has technical expertise in Instrumentation and Control, Applied Physics, Power Electronics, Signal Processing and Biomedical Engineering. Current research interests include Renewable Energy, Control for Energy Efficiency and Ambient Assistive Technologies.
Jeremy is a Chartered Engineer, a Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering and of the IET and ICE, a Fellow of the Royal Society for the Arts and a Senior Member of the IEEE. He is a Visiting Professor at the Universities of Southampton and Sussex and Honorary Fellow at Warwick.
Before joining Arup, Jeremy was Director of Technology at BOC Edwards, managing the Technical Department of 260 staff. He was also a member of the BOC Group Technology Council, advising the Main Board. In his time with BOC, Jeremy was the Technical and IP due diligence authority in the acquisition of Seiko Instruments.
