Leading engineer honoured for contribution to industry

Esteemed engineer Dr Dolores Byrne OBE, has been rewarded for her outstanding achievements in engineering, with an Honorary Fellowship from the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

Dr Dolores Byrne, currently a Non-Executive Director at Sellafield Ltd and at the Rail Safety Standards Board,has a career background in academia, Ministry of Defence and industry.  She has been active within the IET throughout her career, serving as a Trustee and Vice President and as the first Chair of the Impact Engineering Fundraising Campaign, which was established to enthuse and engage more young people in engineering careers.

On receiving her Honorary Fellowship, Dr Byrne, said: “I am honoured and delighted to receive this prestigious award of Honorary Fellow of the IET.  It has been a great privilege and very enjoyable to work with so many inspiring and talented engineers and IET members across many industry sectors.  Collectively we address some of the big challenges facing society and are at the forefront of innovation – I think that’s a really inspiring message for young people entering the profession.”

Nick Winser, IET President, said: “I am delighted that we are able to mark the outstanding achievements of Dr Dolores Byrne, with one of the IET’s highest honours, Honorary Fellowship. She is a highly distinguished engineer and has made a significant contribution, not only to the industry, but for services to the IET to enhance our vision, engineering a better world.”
