IET welcomes progress on the UK's orderly departure from the EU

08 December 2017

Dr Joanna Cox, Head of Policy at the IET, responds to the Government's Brexit agreement.

“The IET welcomes progress on the UK’s orderly departure from the EU and will support the Government in securing the best outcome for the UK.

“Engineering makes a huge contribution to economic growth and societal needs in the UK, and we must now ensure that the engineering skills gap is not compounded by Brexit.

“Our latest skills survey found that only 29% of the engineering and technical workforce saw Brexit as an obstacle to achieving their business objectives in the next three years. This compares to nearly two thirds (61%) who saw the recruitment of people with the right skills the biggest barrier, representing a more profound challenge than the UK leaving the European Union.”
