New Editors-in-Chief appointed for IET Computers & Digital Techniques

20 March 2014

The Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) has announced the appointment of two new Editors-in-Chief to its journal IET Computers & Digital Techniques. Professor Andy Tyrrell has been named Editor-in-Chief, and Prabhat Mishra Deputy Editor-in-Chief. Their combined expertise and standing in the scientific community bring a renewed impetus to this prestigious journal going forward.

Andy Tyrrell is Professor of Electronics at York University, UK, where he is Head of the Intelligent Systems Research Group. His main research interests are in the design of digital systems and in particular FPGA system design, biologically-inspired architectures, evolvable hardware and fault tolerant design.

Of his new appointment, Professor Andy Tyrrell said: “This journal has been one of the leading publications and the quality consistently high. Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi, the outgoing Editor-in-Chief, has set extremely high standards for me to follow. It will be hard to continue his success with the journal, but I consider it a privilege and responsibility to do my best.”

Prabhat Mishra is Associate Professor in the Department of Computer and Information Science and Engineering (CISE) at the University of Florida, where he leads the CISE Embedded Systems Lab. His research interests include design automation of embedded systems, energy-aware computing, reconfigurable architectures, security and reliability, hardware/software verification, and post-silicon debug.

Saying of his new role, Prabhat Mishra explained: “It is my honour and pleasure to serve as Deputy Editor-in-Chief in IET Computers & Digital Techniques. I look forward to serving in this role in one of the premier journals in the field of digital systems.”

IET Computers & Digital Techniques publishes technical papers and case studies at the forefront of research and development work in all aspects of digital system-on-chip design and test of electronic and embedded systems. Coverage of this rapidly growing field includes the development of design automation tools, processor and system architectures, configurable computing, and the problems associated with the scaling down of CMOS technology.

The outgoing Editor-in-Chief, Professor Bashir Al-Hashimi, University of Southampton, UK has been at the head the editorial board for a number of years.  Having seen the publication of several special issues and growing journal awareness he said of his tenure: “During my editorship, I worked with the Editorial Board at raising the scientific standing of IET Computers & Digital Techniques with the main aim for researchers in embedded systems and systems-on-chip to see the journal as a high quality outlet for their timely research. I am pleased to step down at the point where the journal continues to attract high-quality submissions and is supported by an eminent international Editorial Board.”

Both appointments are effective from 1 March 2014.
