In 2018 the IET will be joining forces with government and industry partners to give thousands of young people inspiring experiences of engineering to tackle the engineering skills gap and widen the pool of young people who join the profession.
The UK government has announced that 2018 will be the Year of Engineering, a national year-long campaign to increase awareness and understanding of what engineers do among young people aged 7-16, their parents and teachers.
The campaign complements the IET’s Engineer a Better World campaign, encouraging young people to take a closer look at engineering, challenge stereotypes and showcase the variety and creativity in this innovative sector.
Throughout the year, Year of Engineering partners will highlight some of the many different ways that individuals and organisations can #inspireanengineer on social media – follow the hashtag on Twitter to find out more.
The IET will be supporting the Year of Engineering through its Engineering Open House Day event and will share other ways to support the campaign in the coming months.
