This year we awarded 84 Engineering Horizons Bursaries and 73 Diamond Jubilee Scholarships. All of our scholarships and bursaries play an integral part in inspiring the next generation. They offer financial support for talented engineering students and apprentices to enable them to pursue their careers in engineering and technology without the worry of financial pressure or personal challenges.
On the 19 February, we held workshops for Diamond Scholars and Horizons bursary winners to learn more about the IET, as well as how to get involved with STEM activities and to help them understand what it means to volunteer with us. Our winners had the opportunity to network with each other and meet the donors who support the schemes.
On the same day, all the winners and their friends and family gathered for our annual celebration ceremony and they had a chance to hear directly from the donors who have contributed to the schemes sharing how and why they are involved.
This year, we had the honour of introducing the Janet Firmin Memorial Fund during the celebration. We were pleased to announce Imogen Relf and Mark Marney as the first recipients of this award. Janet sadly passed a few years ago having worked at the IET for more than 30 years. Her legacy will live on as she continues to support engineers through our scholarship and bursary schemes.
We would like to thank our donors: Affinity Water, Altran, Belling Charitable Settlement, BT, Chemring, Costain, Cundall, Engineers Trust, National Grid, Plextek, Siemens, SMMT Charitable Trust and Thales for their support. Our Scholarships and Bursaries give young people the chance to be an Ambassador for the IET and STEM learning. This helps us to engineer a better world by continuing to encourage more young people into STEM careers.
The IET Annual Dinner helps to raise funds for our Engineering Horizons Bursaries and Diamond Jubilee Scholarships. We would like to thank all of our donors; without your support, we wouldn’t be able to support so many worthy recipients through their studies and apprenticeships.
Each year, we provide around £1m in awards, prizes and scholarships, to celebrate excellence and innovation in the sector and encourage the next generation of engineers and technicians. By working with companies, individuals and charities, we are able to offer financial support to more apprentices and students.
