IET Members and Fellows recognised on the 2020 New Year Honours List

Air Marshal Sir Julian Young FIET was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of the British Empire (KBE) for his services to the Royal Air Force (RAF), Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S) and engineering.

Air Marshal Sir Julian Young is IET Deputy President and an IET Trustee. He is Chief of Materiel (Air) within the DE&S organisation in the Ministry of Defence (MOD) and delivered a sell-out EngTalk, RAF 2118: Engineering the next 100 years in 2018, that explored some of the technical and engineering challenges that RAF has faced and how they have come to adapt to continuing technological advances.

He is also a Member of the Air Force Board and Chief Engineer (RAF), and has an MOD-wide role as the Defence Engineering Champion.

Previously, he was DE&S’s Director Helicopters and responsible for equipping and supporting Defence’s rotorcraft and, before then, was DE&S’s Technical Director and Chief Information Officer.

Yewande Mayomi-Akinola MIET was awarded an MBE for her services to Engineering and Diversity in STEM Design and Innovation. In 2012, Yewande became IET Young Woman Engineer of the Year. She has since become a Member of IET Board of Trustees and continues to fly the IET flag at events across the world, staying committed to making positive change through the engineering community and engaging with wider audiences

She is an Engineer within Laing O’ Rourke’s Engineering Excellence Group where her current role spans across design for manufacture and assembly for construction, project engineering and innovation management. Over the last decade, her engineering experience and responsibilities have included the design of sustainable water supply systems and the engineering design coordination of large projects in the built environment.

Dr Hayaatun Sillem FIET has received a CBE for her services to International Engineering.  She is Chief Executive at the Royal Academy of Engineering. The IET works closely with the Royal Academy of Engineering to collaborate on campaigns to change the public perception of engineering. Most notable recently, This is Engineering Day, a day created by the Royal Academy of Engineering to address the significant skills and diversity shortage within engineering in the UK.

Andrew Bud FIET, Chief Executive Officer, IProov and Global Chairman, Mobile Ecosystem Forum, received a CBE for his services to Exports in Science and Technology.

Dawn Fitt MIET has received an OBE for her services to Training, Inclusion and Diversity in Engineering. She has held various volunteer roles within the IET. She was a School Liaison Officer for over 16 years and is currently an Engineering Education Grant Scheme Panel Member, as well as being on the YWE panel for 16 years.

For his services to the Royal Navy, Jon Pearson MIET, Warship Support Director, BAE Systems, was awarded an OBE.

Dr Bikramjit Singh Bhangu FIET received an OBE for services to trade and British commercial interests. He is President for South East Asia, Pacific and South Korea Rolls-Royce and lately President of the British Chamber of Commerce in Singapore.

For her services to Diversity in Engineering, Olanike Folayan FIET was awarded an MBE. Olanike is the co-founder of the Association for Black and Minority Ethnic Engineers UK (AFBE-UK) and is a dedicated ambassador to encouraging and retaining diversity within engineering.

Annette Henley FIET, Lead Engineer for Infrastructure, National Communications Data Service, Home Office, was awarded an MBE for her services to Raising Awareness of Mental Health Issues.
