The Electrical Engineering Academic Forum 2020 went virtual

The annual PhD forum was held virtually this year with over 280 researchers and PhD students from leading universities and institutions, in the Energy Sector across China, participating in the online conference. The theme this year was Energy Transformation and Energy Internet. Due to COVID-19, the organisers adapted and proceeded as scheduled as an online conference. The forum attracted a wide audience with 34,000 people live-streaming the event.

The event was kicked off by Prof. Chongqing Kang, Dean of the Department of Electrical Engineering at Tsinghua University, Prof. Jinyu Wen, Dean of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering at Huazhong University of Science and Technology and Maggie Zhang, IET China Membership Manager. Renowned professors and researchers were invited to attend as keynote speakers, including IET Fellows Prof. Zhiwei Wang and Prof. Zhimin Dang

Maggie Zhang, IET China Membership Manager said “This forum is an important platform for EE PhD students to communicate with academics and exchange innovative ideas. It is an opportunity for young researchers to communicate their work to a large audience for potential publication.

In the past few years, we have witnessed the steady progress of this forum, from University level to National level. This year's organising committee has turned challenges caused by COVID-19 into a unique opportunity, making good use of IT to largely expand its influence in China Engineering academia”.

This is the fifth year that the IET has co-organised this call-for-papers forum. Topics include power system control and simulation, new material and new technology of high voltage, Electric drive and control and new technology in electrical engineering. 158 papers from 13 universities have been submitted and the best papers will be recommended for publication in our IET Digital Library.
