IET 150th anniversary countdown

We have a range of fun and creative activities planned for the year. From inspirational talks and workshops with young people to exhibitions, competition and unlikely collaborations; we’re reaching outside our engineering bubble and challenging outdated stereotypes and misconceptions about our industry.
We’ll also be running a global campaign, aiming to leave a legacy and create a movement that will inspire the next generation. Focusing on sustainable engineering, we’ll be showcasing difference makers around the world and the positive impact they’re having. We want to hear from everyone, whether an inventor working out of their shed, a social campaigner, or an academic institution or company making strides in developing new technologies. We launched a Global Volunteer Engagement Fund as part of these anniversary celebrations, providing our networks across the world with the opportunity to bring special, celebratory events and activities to their regions.
The winning applications focus on sustainability or celebrate our anniversary, uncover or promote creative engineering solutions, and reach unexpected audiences in unexpected ways – whether through delivering something new or upscaling existing projects.
We were overwhelmed by the sheer volume of fantastic ideas; from robot fighting leagues and sustainable community projects to carnivals, conferences and hackathons. We can’t wait to see these come to life!
