How we are supporting efforts to deal with COVID-19 across the world

As well as collating ideas on the UK's engineering and technological response to COVID-19 we are keen to learn from the rest of the world's experiences in this fight so far. As an organisation with members across the globe we are perfectly placed to tap into your knowledge and insights to guide our Government’s actions so this is a call for you to share your experiences and case studies of the engineering and technological interventions that have been tired globally. For example, what do you think has worked elsewhere? What has been tried and made an impact? What is being trialled currently in your country? To take part in the discussion, visit IET Engineering Communities.

Meanwhile, past IET President, Jeremy Watson has been asked by the UK Government to gather practical and innovative ideas relating to dealing with COVID-19 from the engineering community. Please contribute to this discussion on IET Engineering Communities.

Over the past few weeks, the UK Parliament has seen a surge in need for access to research expertise on the COVID-19 outbreak. In this rapidly evolving situation, Parliament needs quick access to researchers who can provide expert insights relating to both Coronavirus and its impacts. To speed up the process of Parliament accessing relevant research expertise, they are creating a COVID-19 Outbreak Expert Database. If you know any researchers who have any expertise relating to the COVID-19 outbreak or its impacts, please encourage them to get in touch with us by email at SEP@theiet.org.

We’ve been working with the Government’s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy, which is looking for businesses to support in the production and supply of ventilators and ventilator components. They’re looking for businesses that can support in the supply of ventilators and ventilator components across the UK as part of their response to COVID-19. As well as manufacturers, the Government is looking for businesses with the following skills: design/specification, rapid prototyping, contract/product assembly, certification/regulation/testing, logistics and medical training. If you think your business can help, please register your details.

Please regularly visit our social media channels where we will share the Government’s latest updates and requests for support on COVID-19.
