IET to host EngTalk exploring how virtual designs inspire products and factories of the future

Opening the event will be Dr Sonia Zahiroddiny, the Interim Building Information Modelling (BIM) Director at HS2, in a discussion about how BIM is being applied to construction and what digital twins are. She will be speaking about her first-hand knowledge of how modern construction projects are likely to involve embedded sensor networks and have bespoke 3D-printed components.

The main speaker, Brian Holliday is a member of the Executive Management Board of Siemens pls, Managing Director for Siemens Digital Industries, a chartered engineer and a fellow of the IET. He has been able to see the changes first-hand and how the deployment of these new tools is making sweeping changes to manufacturing. In this EngTalk, you will experience manufacturing of the future as he discusses the challenges the manufacturing industry is facing as a result of the demand for high-quality and affordable products being on the rise.

Brian will explore some of the most cutting-edge and discrete developments from additive and Artificial Intelligence (AI) to automation, that are enabling manufacturing capabilities never seen before. He will touch on a variety of topics from digital tools and Computer-aided Design (CAD) to digital twins and IIoT (Industrial Internet of Things).

Our EngTalks are used to inspire learning and engineer a better world by putting engineering and technology in the spotlight.

The talk is taking place on 16 September at IET London: Savoy Place and 28 November at Coventry University. Both events are free to attend. If you are unable to attend the event, the talks and Q&A are being live-streamed by IET.tv.
