IET UNITEN OnCampus team host first International Automation and Control Enhancing Innovation Competition (ACEiC) 2019 in Malaysia

The competition was held over two days on 14 and 15 October 2019 and attracted more than 50 teams from Malaysia and other countries to participate as exhibitors. The theme for the event was Embracing the change of the Industrial Revolution 4.0.

IET International ACEiC 2019 is a competition for postgraduate and undergraduate students from international and local universities. They must develop a product or study, fulfilling the theme relating to the Industrial Revolution 4.0. It is an excellent platform for sharing creative thinking results and raises innovation product creativity from research and development (R&D) ideas in automation and control.

ACEiC provides the perfect platform for young exhibitors to showcase their abilities in their respective fields. Participants are encouraged to apply their knowledge to create a functional prototype that addresses industrial problems based on the development of available technologies.

University engineering students from the UNITEN IET OnCampus team worked alongside IET Malaysia and Universiti Tenaga Nasional to make the international Automation and Control Enhancing Innovation competition (ACEiC) a success.

A huge well done to our IET UNITEN OnCampus volunteers for organising such a successful event and congratulations to all the winners.

The overall champion was a hydropower generator project named Pico Hydro from the Technical University of Malaysia Malacca (UTeM). It is a simple, yet cost-efficient, design of a power generator using turbines in a small stream of water. It has 78% efficiency, which is exceptionally good considering its use in small water streams. In total, 10 gold medals and 17 silver medals were awarded to participating teams.

The event’s supporting organisations also gave their own awards to teams who they felt excelled in their areas of engineering and technology. These awards were:

  • IET Technical Network Malaysia: Best Automation and Control Concept
  • IEEE Malaysia: Best Project Innovation
  • IEEE Control System Society: Best Control System Project
  • Malaysian Inventions and Design Society: Most Inventive Project
  • Malaysia Society for Automatic Control Engineers: Most Creative Prototype
  • Public’s Choice Award (Most Voted Award)

International ACEiC 2019’s closing award ceremony was officiated by Yang Berhormat (YB) Dr Ong Kian Ming, the Deputy Minister of The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI). Honourable speakers included Razif Abdul Aziz, Acting Group CEO of Cradle Fund Sdn. Bhd, who gave a talk on Technopreneurship: Journey from Research Work to Commercialization and Izmir Yamin, CEO of Independence-X Aerospace Sdn. Bhd, with a presentation on the Impact of Space Era in The Industrial Revolution.

It is a great way to promote critical thinking and showcase the brilliant minds of the next generation who will change the face of technology and engineering with their innovative ideas in future years. The event offered a great opportunity for young professionals to develop their network and bridge the gap between education and industry. The competition would not have been possible without sponsorships from PESTECH International Berhad (Platinum sponsor), UNITEN R&D Sdn. Bhd. (Platinum sponsor), Aerodyne Geospatial Sdn. Bhd. (Gold Sponsor), Trisystems Engineering Sdn. Bhd. (Gold Sponsor), Independence-X Sdn. Bhd (Gold Sponsor) and Abbaco Controls Sdn. Bhd. (Bronze Sponsor).

A huge well done to our IET UNITEN OnCampus volunteers for organising such a successful event and congratulations to all the winners.
