In May 2021 the IET will celebrate its 150th anniversary. To mark this momentous occasion, we are planning a series of activities during the IET’s 2020-2021 Presidential term. We’d like to use our anniversary to raise awareness of the exciting and important role engineering and technology play in shaping our world, to celebrate the IET and the wider engineering profession, inspire future engineers and technicians, and leave a lasting legacy.
Since its foundation in 1871 as the Society of Telegraph Engineers, the IET has had a rich and complex history, which you can see on our IET History web page. We became the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET) in 2006 by the joining together of the Institution of Electrical Engineers and the Institution of Incorporated Engineers. Today, we are a diverse home for engineering and technology across the world, providing extensive knowledge, resources and support to help our members grow professionally, champion the profession in all its forms and inspire the engineers and technicians of tomorrow.
We want to plan activities that celebrate the IET and our predecessor organisations, and inspire others to join the engineering community to solve societal challenges and support technological change both now and in the future.
We’d like you to get involved and input into the planning process by telling us what impact you’d like the 150-year anniversary to have made in years to come. Please email your suggestions to firstname.lastname@example.org.
