BAE Systems’ Chief Executive becomes Chartered with the IET

Charles currently runs multibillion-pound engineering projects at BAE Systems, one of the world’s largest defence, aerospace and security companies which employs over 88,000 people worldwide.

Known as an “oil industry veteran,” Charles joined BAE Systems after a period as Chief Executive Officer at Expro Group, which surveys and manages oil and gas wells around the world.

Before that, he had a 15-year career at oil services company Schlumberger. This took him to the Far East, Australia, France and the United States to oversee major projects.

Charles entered the industry as a postgraduate, having achieved a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical Sciences and a PhD in Engineering from Cambridge University. He later completed an MBA at Erasmus University, Rotterdam.

A spokesperson for BAE Systems says: “Engineering is at the heart of what BAE Systems does and we are committed to supporting the continued development of our engineers and guiding our community towards professional registration.”

For Charles, professional registration is not just a personal achievement, but a contribution to high standards in his organisation and industry. He says: “Demonstrating the professionalism and quality of our employees, through recognition by professional institutions, ensures BAE Systems remains at the forefront of our industry.”
