The event’s 7th edition took place on 26 and 27 September 2018, when it made its first visit to Denmark, the heart of the global wind energy industry.
Professor Jacob Østergaard and Associate Professor Qiuwei Wu of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU) in Copenhagen proved excellent hosts, providing an opportunity for delegates to visit their enviable facilities at PowerLabDK.
They also arranged an over-subscribed technical visit to EnergyLab Nordhavn, a full-scale smart city energy lab which DTU and many partners are involved in.
Well attended by international academics, researchers, engineers and consultants, this year's technical sessions had a strong emphasis on managing renewables with speakers presenting an in-depth look at the energy systems of today, and how we can improve them in the future.
Professor Østergaard said: “Denmark is the heart of the global wind energy industry and has unique experiences with integration of RES in the power system.
"Today, the wind power penetration in the Danish energy system is more than 40% (early average) on top of the solar power and biomass power generation, and the country has high ambitions regarding a complete shift to renewable energy sources.
"Hosting the conference at DTU, which has a strong position in energy research and is ranked second in the world within the academic subject of Energy Science and Technology, will ensure we can build upon the success of previous RPG conferences held in China, the UK and Italy.”
Selected papers presented at the conference will be invited for consideration in a Special Issue in the IET Renewable Power Generation journal.
The next International Conference on RPG will take place in Shanghai, China, on 24-25 October 2019.
