As the UK’s Year of Engineering, 2018 has celebrated one of the country’s most dynamic and in-demand industries. As the year draws to a close ‘Future of Engineering’ takes a look at some of the opportunities and challenges now presenting the sector’s leaders.
The report explores the future of innovation, sustainability and diversity, including insights into how a lack of sufficient funding for research and development is holding innovation back. It addresses what can be done to encourage more women to join the industry, counteracting the sector-wide talent shortage and looks at the new importance of so-called soft skills in engineering graduates.
Steve Evans, Chair of the IET’s manufacturing policy panel also authors an opinion piece on how engineering can spearhead the fight against climate change.
The report is available in the Times, Wednesday 18 December or online.
