The annual PLAD event takes place so that engineers and other professionals in Malaysia can broaden their network and gain industry knowledge and wisdom from speakers. This year’s Prestige Lecture was delivered by Yang Berhormat Puan Isnaraissah Munirah Majilis, Member of Parliament for Kota Belud and the current Deputy Minister of Energy, Science, Technology, Environment and Climate Change (MESTECC) in Malaysia. She discussed the role and responsibilities of engineers in building a nation and contributing to the Government’s policy on Science, Technology, Engineering and Energy.
As well as the Prestige Lecture, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the IET and the Chartered Management Institute (CMI), which signifies the collaboration between the two UK professional bodies in Malaysia focusing on STEM and best practises in management.
The evening ended with an awards session where 10 companies in Malaysia were awarded with the ‘IET Malaysia Industry Award 2018’ for their significant contribution in the field of Engineering & Technology in the country.
Professor Ir. Dr. Vigna Kumaran a/l Ramachandaramurthy was awarded an IET Malaysia Achievement Award and Associate Professor Ir. Dr. Nadia Tan Mei Lin was presented with the IET Young Engineer Award.
The IET Honorary Fellows 2018 were awarded to Dr. Yap Vooi Voon and Prof. Dr. Leong Wai Yie, while the Chartered Engineer (CEng) 2018 recipients were announced as Mr Raj Bimal, Associate Professor. Ir. Syuhaida Ismail, Dr. Sivakumar Paramasivam, and Dr. Hong Kai Sze.
Other award recipients included Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) for the Best IET Malaysia On-Campus Award 2018 and ten university students for the Leadership Award 2018.
The event was sponsored by 23 major engineering companies and was attended by more than 400 participants from various institutions such as IEM, IEEE, IMechE, IChemE, MBOT and IET representatives from Singapore as well as Brunei.
