The changes are being introduced following the first review of the facility's use by members since the building was refurbished. The results show the members' area is very busy during the day, with a predicted 40,000 member visits this year, and very low usage in the early evening. Due to this, the opening times will change from 8am to 7.30pm to 8.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays. On occasions when we hold high profile evening events at the venue, the opening time of the Faraday Centre will be extended.
Before the refurbishment of Savoy Place, the member facilities were used on average by 30 people a day. Since we re-opened, we sometimes see as many as 225 people using the facility. This has led to occasional complaints from members trying to book a meeting room or booth. To help alleviate this problem we will be reducing the number of visitors each member is allowed to host, from seven to five. Members who wish to hold meetings with more than five guests, can take advantage of booking our meeting rooms with a 20% discount.
Members should note that the Knowledge Centre's hours are unchanged, opening from 9am to 5.30pm Monday to Friday.
All the changes will come into effect from Wednesday 2 January 2019. The Knowledge Services Board is committed to regularly reviewing the use of the facility.
The Faraday Centre will close for the festive period on 24 December 2018 at midday for members and visitors and will re-open on Wednesday 2 January 2019 at 8.30am.
