The IET Academy is a new, interactive e-learning platform aimed at the engineering community that will enable engineers to improve their technical skills and knowledge by completing bite-sized training modules to full courses.
The IET 2017 Skills and Demand in Industry survey found that 61% of employers struggle to employ staff with the right technical skills, which will impact their business objectives over the next three years. The IET Academy aims to fill this education gap by allowing companies to introduce scalable and customised training opportunities for their employees, regardless of location.
For individuals, the IET Academy enables engineers to achieve continuing professional development (CPD) hours through online training, learning from subject experts and ensuring that their skills are up to date.
Head of the IET Academy, Martin Davies, said: “Our members have cited in recent surveys that improving their technical skills and knowledge is one of their top priorities. The IET Academy provides IET members with flexible, easy access to in-depth training, tailored to individual needs, and support their continuing professional development (CPD) throughout their career.
“During the past two years, the IET has been working with leading academic partners to develop a range of new e-learning courses, enabling IET members and the wider engineering community to access technical and professional training to support their continuing professional development needs.”
Initial training courses cover key subjects in Power Systems Engineering, Mobile Communications and Management and Leadership, with further courses being developed in Engineering Ethics, Entrepreneurship in Engineering, Professionalism, Risk Management, Transport BIM, Cyber Security and the 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations training.
